Wiveliscombe Wiveliscombe is an historic town, full of unexpected and surprising discoveries from an architectural and walking point of view. Set in a landscape of hills and wooded valleys, accessed by ancient greenways and paths, the town is at the centre of the circular 23 mile “Wivey Way”, which can be walked in a day, or broken down into manageable sections, with paths leading back to Wiveliscombe. The gentle hills of the Vale of Taunton Deane rise to the Brendon Hills, which offer stunning panoramic views to Exmoor, the Blackdown and Quantock Hills, and further north to the Somerset coast, and across the Bristol Channel to Wales and the Brecon Beacons. “Wiveliscombe Circular Walks” (ISBN 0-955286-0-0) describes walks for all abilities starting and finishing in the town, ranging from short town to long day walks, culminating in the “Wivey Way”. The town can be accessed by public transport via Taunton. Several walks, and the towns of Bampton, Dulverton and Wellington are on bus routes, making a full and varied walking break possible for those not wanting to use private transport. Additionally, “Bus Walks” will be available on the internet soon, detailing the footpaths back to Wiveliscombe. Wiveliscombe has a thriving walking group which meets twice a month, one walk being circular from the town and the other within a short drive enabling the coast, Exmoor, Quantocks and Blackdown Hills to be walked. In addition, other walks are arranged to fit in with the many other activities that go on in this flourishing community. Useful local information
