Profile of the National Executive Committee
Sam Phillips (Chairman)
Sam is a retired engineering manager having worked in manufacturing engineering and quality management. He considers himself fortunate to have worked in the USA and, briefly, in Europe and the Far East.
He is Chairman of the Ross-on-Wye Walkers are Welcome group. Ross gained accreditation in 2009. He has been a member of the National Executive Committee since the first Conference in Hebden Bridge in 2007. In addition to walking Sam is a cyclist and is Secretary of the Ross/Betzdorf (Germany) twinning association. He is also a member of Ross Lions Club.
Geoffrey Kitt (Treasurer)
Geoff has been on the Steering Group since it was first formed from the initial 6 members.
A retired local government accountant, Geoff was persuaded to take on the role of Treasurer from the first meeting. Subsequently he also took on responsibility for membership, maintaining the paper record of members including signed applications, holding the stock of window stickers and distributing handbooks. Part of his responsibility is to request payment of annual subscriptions.
Geoff chairs the Walking Group in Moffat which is a sub-group of the Moffat and District Community Initiative. The Group has arranged for the signing of routes,the printing of walk brochures and instrumental in originating the Annandale Way, a three day walk from the Devil’s Beef Tub, north of Moffat, to the sea at Annan.
Ann Sandell (Secretary)
Ann is Chairman of Kirkby Stephen & District Walkers are Welcome who were formed in 2008. This is a small town in Cumbria where she has lived for 27 years with her husband Keith to be joined by three children now in their twenties. Ann has been an executive committee member since 2010 and Secretary since 2012.
Whist officially retired, when not busy with Walkers are Welcome stuff, answering your e-mails and operating local twitter and facebook accounts, Ann paints local scenes which she sells to residents and visitors. With a huge interest in local history Ann has published a number of pamphlets and research materials as well as being Secretary to the Upper Eden History Society. Walking and history often combine in guided walks and town leaflets for visitors.
