Walkers are Welcome Annual Get-Togethers
In 2012 we decided to rename our Annual Conference ‘Get-Together’ to steer away from the stuffy conference image and encourage more people to attend what we believe are informative, inspiring and enjoyable events for Walkers are Welcome members and associates. This annual gathering is usually held in October each year where all WaW members are invited for the purpose of making new friends, networking and sharing best practice.
We now usually combine the two-day event with some walking, an evening meal to get to know one another and informative talks or workshops. We squeeze in a very quick Annual General Meeting to keep the formalities as short as possible. We would love to see you for either a day out, the two-day break or even longer. It is always good to meet each other, going home refreshed and inspired from the experience. The event is very casual and too good to miss.
Your town could host the next Walkers are Welcome Get-Together.
To bid for this, please complete the WAW Get-together bid form.
Walkers are Welcome Annual General Meeting and Get-Together 2019
Will be hosted by:
Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria
on 12th & 13th Ocotober 2019
Kirkby Stephen lies in the upper Eden valley and is surrounded the spectacular countryside of the North Pennines Area of Natural Beauty and the Westmorland Dales extension to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This lovely area offers gentle walks by the River Eden, exploring ancient lanes and disused railways or venture up on the higher fells and moorland with open access. Eleven long distance trails, including the Wainwright Coast to Coast and Lady Anne’s Way, bring many walkers to the town.
Traditionally, an historical small market town, Kirkby Stephen was a past winner of England’s Calor Village of the Year and was more recently shortlisted by The Ramblers for the Best Walking Neighbourhood Award. Within Market Street you will find many individual shops, pubs, cafes and accommodation. We are particularly proud of our free-flying Macaws, Red Squirrels, quirky projects and arts events.
Planning is underway for the October event and in the meantime, we would invite you to browse the Kirkby Stephen leaflet or Kirkby Stephen & District Walkers are Welcome website. We look forward to seeing you.
