Weardale is a relatively undiscovered area of the North East. It has excellent network of walks, with around 140 miles of rights of way in the parish of Wolsingham alone, together with a large number reaching out from Wolsingham along Weardale. The small town of Wolsingham has a population of around 2,700 registered in the Parish. There are a full range of facilities for walkers, including cafes, public houses, bakers and other general stores, as well as a chemist, medical Centre and sports injury clinic. There is also a wide range of accommodation, from camping and caravan sites, to B&B and holiday lettings. The Parish Council manage two car parks with picnic areas and other leisure facilities for visitors.
