There is a yearly South Pennines Walk and Ride festival held in September offering a variety of walks throughout the South Pennines. We have a dedicated team of over 20 volunteers that go out twice weekly to repair and manage our footpath network. Local authority services have been severely hit by cuts and without these volunteers many of our paths would be unusable.
The Calderdale way, a 50 mile circular route around the county was the first long distance footpath to surround a Metropolitan borough. The Pennine way passes near the town, with an official loop of the route to bring walkers into the town.
At Easter time we have a Pace Egg play held raucously outside at Heptonstall. We also have the annual duck race then. In June there is a thriving Arts festival with many interesting events. We have a steampunk festival and in August, a vintage car rally. The local Tourist information centre is the place to visit to find out what's on. It's a tempting town to visit.
