Beaver walk at Greathough on Sunday 30th March 2026

The photos show the change in the stream since the beavers were introduced in 2018, as a solution to the rapid response of Great Hough Brook which led to flooding in Lydbrook. At Piano Corner, the stream is fast flowing and narrower, but the beaver activity has converted it downstream into a series of lagoons separated by dams. It has also provided habitat for a variety of species. Walking along, people commented on the changing sound of the flow of the stream, to almost nothing.

Following on from this a second set of beavers have been introduced in a central Dean location, and another walk in the annual Coleford Area Walking Festival 9 -17 May will visit it.
