Market Weighton supports ‘Children in Need’

The BBC Countryfile walk in aid of “Children in Need”, held on Sunday 22nd October in Market Weighton, is on track to raise over £500 for their annual charity event.
Fifty Seven walkers, including 10 children and numerous dogs, walked either a 5-mile or 2-mile walk to raise funds for the Children in Need charity.

Market Weighton, is an accredited  ‘Walkers are Welcome’ town  and their Walking For Health Leaders, who organised the Children in Need Walk, are all fully competent in first aid, map reading and safely leading walks over the many miles of beautiful footpaths in the area.  Walking for Health meet every Wednesday throughout the year at 10am to walk 4 miles or – for those just getting into walking or wanting a more leisurely walk – there is a 2 mile walk at 10am.  Everyone meets back at in St John’s chapel for tea and toast and a chat.

That is exactly what everyone did at the end of the Children in Need walk, with donated tea & biscuits served by the ladies of the chapel and fruit sponsored by the local Tesco Store.  All those who had walked, donated or helped in any way on the day, were thanked by the Walk Leaders of Walking for Health who look forward not only to sending a very large cheque to the Countryfile team for Children in Need but to all their winter walks this year.
