Tour de France and the ‘Stocksbridge loop’

In celebration of the formal announcement of the route of the Tour de France Grand Départ 2014, the Stocksbridge ‘Walkers are Welcome’ group have made available an A5, 12 page booklet which describes a 14.5 mile walk which takes you parallel to the route which will be taken by Le Tour as it skirts Stocksbridge on Sunday 6th.July 2014.

Le Tour travels from Leeds to Harrogate on 5th.July, then from York to Sheffield. The ‘Stocksbridge loop’ is as predicted: Langsett/ Midhopestones/ Mortimer Road/ Penistone Road/ High Bradfield. The route then passes through Oughtibridge and Grenoside before looping back into the centre of Sheffield. This 200 km stage will challenge the peloton with a blend of iconic and countless, short, sharp climbs.

The walk picks up the route at Langsett. We then go through Midhopestones, ascend to Barnside and Broomhead Moors and skirt the Canyards before leaving the route of ‘Le Tour’ at High Bradfield. A PDF is available to download by clicking here.
