Walkers are Welcome was the message from a packed celebration in the Coachman Hotel in Kilsyth.The walkers are welcome launch held on the 20th June 2009 was a huge success and attracted visitors and walking clubs from throughout North Lanark shire and beyond.
Organized by the Friends of the Kelvin Valley Park and Kilsyth and Villages Community Forum. The event Combined with the Civic Week gathering was welcomed by the civic week queen who said "Kilsyth and the location of the Kelvin valley have an abundance of walks to suit all ages and capabilities, other speakers included Cathie Craigie MSP, Cllrs, Jean Jones and David Key and Jim Lawson local area chairman of the Ramblers Association.

The meeting was chaired by Forum secretary James Hunt who thanked the speakers and all present including members of the rambling groups from Monklands, Strathkelvin, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth fitness alfresco with support from Clubnet, Croy Historical Society, The Canal Society, Croy and Kilsyth Community Councils he also thanked the sponsorship of the event by The Antonine Walkway Trust, NHS Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire Council.
Two walks followed the reception, a three mile low level led by Paul Carter took in the Colzium estate , Banton loch and Burngreen park an eight mile high level walk led by Ian Jarvis took in the Antonine Wall and the Forth & Clyde Canal
